This is an example of a late WWII "bcd" code, K98 rifle that was converted into a short side rail sniper rifle. The receiver ring is stamped with a "Eagle/749" proof over "bcd/4" for the manufactures code and year of production. The right side of the receiver and rear sight base have the Eagle/acceptance proofs with the single number "1", bcd factory acceptance proof. The rear of the barrel has a single Eagle firing proof and serial number (8367y), with "chAd" barrel code stamped and single WaA147 Waffenamt on the underside of the barrel. The scope mount is the earlier short side rail type, that lacks the additional locking lever on top, while the scope base is a later version that has the three larger base screws; three locking screws and two taper pins that secure it to the receiver. The scope is a unmarked wartime commercial model with the elevation knob marked "1-8" for (100-800 meters). The scope is only marked; "4X81" on the right side of the elevation base, however its similar to those issued during WWII on some sniper rifles. The rifle has the late war stamped barrel bands and trigger guard with a milled floor plate. The front of the trigger guard is marked "GERMANY". The stock and handguard are both the late war laminated style that is also unmarked or proofed.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: phosphate
Grips:
Serial Number: 8367y
Condition: Very fine overall as assembled with the barrel, receiver and bolt assembled having the late war unblued metal finish, with the remaining parts having 70% of their dull wartime blue finish. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with a nice original wartime finish with minimal handling marks overall. The rifle has a matching bolt assembly with unnumbered, stamped components with the scope mount renumbered to matching to the rifle, with a mismatched floor plate. The scope has excellent optics and the elevation knob works correctly. The top, front edge of the scope has been slightly bent over, but it doesn't affect the optics or the function of the scope. This is a very nice representative example of a very difficult to obtain WWII short side rail type sniper rifle.
