This is an excellent example of a WWII Nazi P38 pistol that was manufactured by the Walther factory in mid 1944, as previously owned by Major General Dean Van Lydegraf. Major Van Lydegraf served during WWII receiving his commission in early 1944 after graduating from the university of Oregon. He served with the 301st Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division during WWII, and served in four separate campaigns with that units. He was wounded in February 1945 near Nennig Germany. After WWII he served in several QM positions from 1947-1966, when he became Chief of Staff and later Deputy Commander, Cam Rahn Bay, Support Command Vietnam. After his return to the U.S., he was assigned to the Atlanta Army Depot and was promoted to Brigadier General in 1970. He then commanded Natick Laboratories from 1970-72, when he was promoted to Major General. He served as the Commander of the QM Center and school in Fort Lee, Virginia from 1973-1977, when he retired. He was elected to the QM Hall of Fame in 2000. The pistol is accompanied by a 563-R, "Registration of Personal Firearms" card in his name, specifically listing this pistol as his personal property. The pistol is a mid-1944, Walther produced P.38. It has the standard "P.38/AC 44" slide markings with the single "Eagle/359" firing proof between the double "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proofs.
