This is a nice example of a late war production K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff factory. The rifle is fitted with a un-coded commercial Opticotechna scope mounted on a long rail system on the left side of the receiver numbered to the gun. The scope has the adjustment dial on top and is graduated from 1 to 8. It has a matte finish and marked "DIALYTAN 4X 79377" on the left side, with black leather lens covers. The top of the receiver is marked with the "eagle/749" over "bcd" the wartime code for the Gustloff Werke at Weimar and "4" for the year of manufacture. The right side is marked with the number "1" and two Nazi proofmarks. The left rear portion of the barrel is marked with the Nazi firing proof and the serial number, while the right side is marked "avk As". The breech end of the barrel and front of the front receiver ring are roughly milled. The rifle has a stamped front barrel band and trigger guard, and milled middle barrel band and floor plate. Hooded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The stock and handguard are the correct "bcd" produced laminated wartime versions and the stock has the correct single "C" proof and Waffenamt on the lower stock area, and also marked with an eagle proof over "H" on the right side, designating Army issue. Complete with an original slotted cleaning rod and a brown leather sling. All visible numbers match.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 2256v
Condition: Very fine as professionally restored. The rifle retains 95% blue finish with wear limited to thinning on the bolt handle and bolt. The stock is very good with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The scope is very good with some thinning of the polished finish on the optic end, pitting on the objective end and clear optics. The sling is very good. With the exception of the markings on the rough milled areas, the markings are clear. The action is excellent.
