This is an example of a late pre WWII 1940 dated, "42 code" Nazi Mauser luger. These early pre-war lugers saw extensive use in the early days of WWII when Germany was rolling into the various low countries and into Russia where very few ever returned. This model has the all salt blued metal finish with checkered walnut grips. The chamber area is marked with the full date of 1940 with the new "42" code marking for the Mauser factory on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/ 655" proofs and the single "eagle/ swastika" firing proof. The firing proof is also marked on the right rear of the barrel and the "eagle/655" proof on the left rear of the barrel. The underside of barrel is correctly marked with the full serial number and bore diameter "8,81". The left side of breechblock is also marked with "eagle and swastika" test/acceptance proof. The safety and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. Unmarked replacement magazine that has the tin plated magazine body with the aluminum base and fitted with checkered walnut grips each marked with the "eagle/655" proof on the inside. Complete with a leather flap holster with partially unreadable markers mark and dated 1940 on the back. The name Harold Simmons is marked on the inside.
