This is a nice example of a scarce original WWII Nazi low turret sniper rifle manufactured by the Mauser factory that has been fitted with a Dialytan 4x sniper scope. The turret mount rifles were considered the most efficient design of the K98 rifles and they were in service from 1939 to the end of the war. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, the right side of the receiver is marked with a single "eagle 135" proof and the left side has a "eagle 135" and Nazi firing proofs flanking the serial number, with the receiver side wall marked "Mod. 98". The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and "3D632" "eagle/135" proof along the top. The left side of the rear scope base is marked with an "eagle/135" proof. The rifle has a milled trigger guard, floor plate, rear barrel band and stamped front barrel band. The matching bolt is a correct war time version with the milled safety. The rifle is fitted with an early all blued sniper scope made by the Hensoldt scope company with the left side of the tube marked "DIALYTAN 4x/bmj" and "69472/cross". It has the correct style sniper elevation knob that is graduated from 100-800 meters, with the front ring numbered "365". With a set of "WaA414" (Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar) Waffenamt stamped lens caps. The rifle is equipped with a hooded ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters, steel cleaning rod with slotted head, and winter trigger guard. Mounted with a walnut stock and hand guard with a cupped buttplate and original brown leather sling. The right side of the buttstock is marked with a "eagle/WaA135" proof and the same proof in the grip area as well as a firing proof.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 19984K
Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 60% faded original thin blue finish with the balance having a smooth gray patina. The remaining parts retain 98% original blue finish with thinning on the floorplate. The stock is very fine with a pin in the buttstock (left side near the butt), reason unknown, otherwise there are only a few minor dings and handling marks. The scope is also very fine with a smooth gray patina on the optic end, overall thinning finish and clear optics. The markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. Low turret 98K snipers are seldom encountered.
