Winchester model 1894 special order rifle, .38-55 caliber, 26” octagon barrel, takedown frame, full magazine, double-triggers, crescent butt, serial #16194, made 1895/96. The rifle remains in very good plus originalcondition showing 75-85% original blue on barrel and magazine tube evenly thinning and toning with some scratches and drifting to a brown patina on the magazine. The forend cap and takedown collar show 20-30% originalblue. The edges are crisp, the barrel address and caliber markings are sharp. The frame shows 40-60% original blue drifting on the edges, some scratches, light erosion, normal aging. The hammer and lever show slighttraces of case hardening, buttplate has drifted to silver. The wood is good with a slight grain, excellent wood to metal fit, traces of original varnish, just a slight amount of normal aging. There has been asmall plug hole filled in the belly of the stock that is almost imperceptible and perfectly accomplished. The action is tight, bore is very good plus and may clean to excellent, still bright with strong rifling.
