Winchester model 1876 first model lever-action sporting rifle, .45-75 caliber, 28” octagon barrel, full magazine, early style factory checkered wood stock, metal shotgun buttplate, serial #8061. The rifle shows an English type 4-leaf rear sight and a larve dovetail behind it indicating it may originally have been equipped with a 7-leaf rear sight. The barrel is marked slightly further forward with a short address. The front sight is in its original base and shows a large antler-horn front sight which marries perfectly with this folding rear sight. The metal surfaces show a dark grey patina with scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting, some spotting and staining, and a trace of blue here and there where protected. The rifle retains its original thumbprint dust-cover. The stocks are fair to good with the forend showing considerable wear to the checkering and edges and one large chip by forend cap. The buttstock also shows wea to the checkering, weathering around the buttplate, and small losses at the top edge where the stock meets the frame on both sides. The action is good, the bore is good with some dirt that may clean. The barrel address and model
