Winchester model 1873 special order .22 short caliber lever-action rifle, 24” half-round half-octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, British proofs, serial #563362. The rifle remains in very good plus to near finecondition showing 80-90% original blue finish, some areas of dried oil and grease, some slight pitting and erosion, some wear at the edges, some beginning pinprick pitting. The stocks are good to very good with smallscratches, dings, mars, from poor storage, about 60% varnish with excellent wood to metal fit. The markings are sharp including caliber marking on the lifter. Action is good, bore good. A Sotheby’s catalog, January 24th 1996 lists this rifle in the sale of the S. F. Cody archive.
