Winchester model 1873 saddle-ring carbine, .44-40 caliber, in good condition with original blue finish. Left side of receiver stamped “Captured by E. N. Erickson Teintsin, China” on left side of receiver, serial#535484B. The gun remains in original good to very good condition with 20-40% original blue, some slight cleaning and drifting to patina. The stocks are very good plus with a light overcoating of varnish but no sanding.The markings are sharp, the action is good, the bore is very good plus and still bright. The original carbine sight and small parts are still retained and a cleaning rod remains in the butt. A series of letters written toMiss Rebecca Erickson of Shelby County, Iowa, postmarked 1901 through 1903 are included. One letter mentions rifle dated June 24, 1901. Another letter dated January 19th, 1901 describes the battle of Yangtson. Theseletters written by E. N. Erickson, Company L, U.S. 14th infantry. With other personal and interesting anecdotes. Some stamped “soldier’s letter”. Includes factory letter which confirms “Carbine”, .44 caliber,
