Winchester model 1873 One of One-Thousand. 26” octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, set trigger. Received in the warehouse September 26th, shipped November 1st 1876. Illustrated on page 80, Winchester 1 of 1000by R. L. Wilson. Serial #23336. This rifle was displayed in Southern California by the famous Fowler Gun family for a period of more than 20 years. Sam Fowler was Orange County’s most recognized dealer and this wasthe prized Winchester he was proudest of. A tragic accent occurred in the 1990’s when Fowler’s Sports Center burned to the ground. This rifle that was previously near mint was slightly damaged in the fire and subsequentextinguishing. The rifle shows very deluxe engraving on the muzzle and breech and it is known by sophisticated Winchester collectors that occasionally the engraving is a bit fancier than standard. This is the case inthis example and R. L. Wilson attributes it in his text to one of the Ulrichs (we agree). The barrels show 50-70% original blue with some slight dulling, some losses at the edges and breech, some erosion and pitting just
