Winchester model 1866 lever-action rifle, .44 rimfire caliber, serial #121364. Brown patina finish, in good condition with letters of documentation dating to 1901. A letter on the stationary of James Keelar who billedhimself as the ‘Money King of Alaska’ dealer in diamonds, watches, jewelry, plate, and stationary alleges ‘buys gold, loan’s money, sells, exchanges daily, pack trains, dog teams’ and ‘$5,000 reward to the man I can’ttrade with. Also owns mines, sawmills, timberlands, town sites, and more land than any man in Alaska’. The stationary is quite incredible and shows Keeler in a whimsical pose. The letter is addressed to William H.Upson, Union Depot, Depot News St., Portland, OR, postmarked in Alaska, 1901, with cancelled stamp and matching envelope. The letter states “A Portland man from Dawson named Slavin will leave here tonight with the gun that Soapy Smith killed Reid with. He promised me to deliver the same to you with my complements.
