Winchester highwall single-shot rifle, barrel marked “H.M. Pope” and “.32-40” caliber. Action serial number not visible. Double set triggers, barrel #705 beneath forend. Veneer tang sight, Winchester schutzen type stockwith raised cheekpieces, schutzen butt. Forend matching to buttstock with Winchester style checkering. Pope-type extra long adjustable palm rest. Barrel measures 28”, half-round half-octagon, medium weight. Therifle shows 75-85% old blue finish, probably from period of Pope manufacture. The barrel is mounted from scope blocks that is mounted by tap screws. An adjustable windage target type front sight of the period is in thefront dovetail. There is some extra screws and modification of the action, probably by Pope. The bore is excellent and the rifle has won many matches and has been in our consignor’s collection for many decades.
