Winchester Model 1897 pump action shotgun with old shortened barrel to 19”marked on left side of frame in die stamps U S X 390700. USX stands for United States Express Company who operated as messengers,freighters and mail delivery around the like Wells Fargo. The Winchester is serial numbered 390700 and usually US Express marked their guns with factory serial number along with their marking. The metal surfacesshow a brown patina with 50% blue mixed in also some scattered rust and erosion. The stocks are fair to slightly rough with dings, mars, scratches and losses at the toe and butt plate which are what you would expectfrom a guard gun. The action is good and the bore is fair and the gun locks up tight but there are some bad cracks at the wrist. Consigned from a prominent western memorabilia collector. Est.: $750-$1500
