The lot features an original Winchester Model 1897 slide action shotgun. This example shows a 30 inch round barrel chambered in 12 GA and a serial number of 62715, being manufactured in 1898. This Antique shotgun holds five rounds in the magazine. The Winchester Model 1897 was designed by John Browning. The Model 1897 is an external hammer shotgun lacking a trigger disconnector. This means that the user can hold the trigger down while cycling the shotgun and once the action is returned to battery the shotgun fires. The firearm itself is classified as a slide action pump shotgun. It was the first truly successful pump-action shotgun produced. The 1897 introduced a "take down" design, where the barrel could be taken off, a standard in pump shotguns made today. Over time, "The model 97 became the most popular shotgun on the American market and established a standard of performance by which other kinds and makes of shotguns were judged, including the most expensive imported guns. The left side of the slide is marked "Model 1897 - Winchester." Serial Number: 62715. This firearm qualifies as a an Antique and requires NO FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
