Winchester Model 1894 lever action rifle in desirable .38-55 caliber showing a 25 ½” shortened octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, serial number 141053 made about 1896 or 1897. The barrel shows 20% to 40% original blue with some cleaning and some scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion. The barrel has been crowned or reduced slightly and the rifle has been mounted with later sights. The front sight has been placed in a non-factory dovetail position due to the shortening. The rear sight is a Marble’s type folding rear sight matching with the front sight. The frame shows some cleaning and is drifting back to a gray patina. The wood is good with normal dings, mars, scratches and aging. The action is good and the bore is fair to good. These early 94’s were advertised by Winchester as “The Klondike Rifle” as many went to Alaska and they were hard used on the last frontier. Est.: $500-$1000
