Included for your consideration in this lot is an EXCEPTIONAL example of a late production Winchester 1890 Pump Action rifle, chambered in .22 short. The rifle was produced between 1890, and 1932. Production of receivers ceased in 1932, though final cleanup of dead-stock was put to use up until 1941 - prior to the permanent discontinuation of the rifle, due to our entrance of World War II. Serial numbers for these receivers ranged from 752044-849110, and according to George Madis, in the Winchester Reference Handbook, "Serial numbers 752044 to 849110 were assigned and used intermittently, and many serial numbers in this range were not used. Actual production between these numbers was about 12,171 guns.". The same reference attributes these models being manufactured in the last year of production, 1941. This particular final production example utilizes a corn cob style walnut for-grip, and straight style butt-stock, with a steel crescent butt-plate, additionally showing the original buckhorn rear sight and original short blade/bead front sight. lastly, the rifle has a gorgeous 24" full octagon barrel, and a standard magazine tube. The rifle displays all of its correct late period style markings, including ""Winchester - Trade Mark - Made in U.S.A." on the upper tang, Serial Number: "841293" on the lower tang, and on the bottom of the receiver - in front of the trigger assembly, and "Made in U.S.A. Winchester Repeating Arms CO. New Haven, CONN. PAT. June 26. 88. DEC. 6. 92. NOV. 27. 06. MAY 30. 1911. - MODEL 90.-.22 Short." on the left side of the barrel, in front of the rear sight. Overall, the rifle shows very good condition, with a fantastic BRIGHT bore, very light handling marks on the blonde walnut pieces, a beautiful aged tone to the blue'd finish, and a nice tight action. Even the late production Model 1890's typically have fair-good bores at best, this example is about as good as it gets! and is in very attractive collectors condition. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background check. Serial Number: 841293.
