Winchester Model 1886 lever action musket in .45-70 caliber with 30” round barrel and other original military style features, serial number 82444. Factory letter verifies musket, caliber and received in the warehouse September 15, 1893, shipped from the warehouse also on September 15, 1893 to order number 22833. This musket remains in fine to near excellent original condition with 95% to 98% plus original blue on barrel with very slight losses and a couple very minor storage scratches. The barrel address and edges are razor-sharp. The frame shows 90% to 95% plus colorful case hardening just starting to dull slightly with minimal beginning natural aging. The hammer and lever also show 90% to 95% case hardening. The bolt, loading gate, and small parts show most of their bright blue. The stocks are near fine with a couple of minor marks and scratches. The stocks fit the metal perfectly and are still somewhat fuzzy and also near excellent. The musket is mounted with original sling swivels, military style rear sight, long forend and blued forend cap. The action and the bore are excellent and the musket shows little to no use. This is the finest example of an original 1886 musket we have seen in 44+ years of dealing in fine Winchesters and this is a rare variation of the 1886 model that is very seldom encountered even in sophisticated and museum collections.
