Winchester Model 1886 carbine with military musket type forend similar to 1876 model chambered in .40-82 caliber with 22” barrel, serial number 22713. These rare 86 carbines with military configurations are thought to have been an attempt by Winchester to secure a contract from the Royal Northwest Mounted Police who used the similar model 1876 configuration. This carbine is verified by a factory letter dated 1972 to well-known Southern California Winchester collector Peter Murray. The carbine shows a pleasing brown patina finish with some minor scratches, just normal aging and good clear markings. The stocks have been re-finished, the action is good, the bore is good with some minor wear. Keith and Lori Candee collection. Estimate $4,000-$8,000.
