Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-90 Caliber with Factory Letter
Manufactured in 1892, this rifle features a Lyman blade front sight with ivory bead and adjustable rear buckhorn sight. The top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. "-MODEL 1886-" is marked on the upper tang and the serial number is on the lower tang behind the lever. Mounted with a smooth forearm with iron cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, rifle configuration, caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on March 16, 1892 and shipped on August 3, 1892.

Condition: Very good. The barrel and magazine have a smooth brown patina with strong original blue finish in the protected areas. The hammer shows strong original vivid case colors on the left side. The remaining metal has a smooth brownish gray patina with a darker patina on the buttplate, which also shows some minor oxidation. The wood is also very good with a small gouge on the right side upper wrist and on both sides of the forearm toward the back, otherwise the usual minor dents and dings associated with a gun of this age. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
