For sale in this lot is a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action rifle, chambered for .38-56 W.C.F. cartridge. The rifle is a late production model, dating to manufacture year 1903. The Model 1886 was designed by the renowned John Browning. Despite being originally designed for use with black powder, the action was strong enough to make the jump to smokeless powder with only minor modifications. This example utilizes a 26" half octagonal/ half round barrel, adjustable ladder rear sight, paired with a blade front sight, and showing a near perfect blue'd finish, contrasted by excellent straight grain walnut fixtures. The case hardened hammer and lever action showcase a wonderful original coloration. The rifle is correctly marked, reading; "Model 1886" on the upper-tang, Serial Number "1030383" on the lower-tang, "45-70" on the upper of the barrel, behind the rear sight, and "Manufactured by the - Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, CONN. U.S.A." on the upper of the barrel. Overall, the rifle shows good aesthetic and mechanical condition, and nice walnut fixtures. The action is tight, and the barrel shows strong rifling with a bright bore. Serial Number: 130383. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
