This is a very nice, restored late Model Winchester model 1885 Schuetzen off-hand target rifle. This late model features a 3rd model Laudensack style buttplate, and has been fitted with a Winchester factory #3 heavy weight, full octagon barrel. The top of the barrel has the standard two line Winchester address markings with the rear section of the barrel marked "32-40" in front of the receiver. The barrel has a Winchester style globe front sight, with pin-head sight insert that is adjustable for windage only, with a unmarked mid-range vernier target rear sight with no scope base mounting holes or dovetail provisions for a rear sight. It has the standard double set triggers, with the Winchester factory spur lever, with the Helm style buttplate. It is fitted with the 3rd model Schuetzen style, extra fancy deluxe walnut pistol grip stock with a shadow line cheekpiece, checkered grip and hard rubber grip cap. It has a matching extra fancy, deluxe walnut forearm with checkering on both sides and with the factory ebony inlay in the Schnabel tip. The underside of the barrel has been stamped in two lines: "K.R.BRESIEN/WARSAW N.Y./33-47. This rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms museum verification letter that confirms this rifle was intact an original Schuetzen rifle, originally chambered in 32-40, with 30 inch barrel, checkered, pistol grip stock with spur lever and Helm buttplate. It was shipped from the Winchester factory in August 1904 under order number 24063.
BBL: 30 inch octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 33-47
Finish: blue/case colors
Grips:
Serial Number: 97049
Condition: Very fine as professionally restored with 98% of the rust blued finish with 98% of the color casehardened finish on the action, loading lever and buttplate. The markings are clear but faint. The buttstock and forend also retain 98% of their restored, hand rubbed varnish with nice distinct checkering on both the stock and forend. The forend has a small crack on the upper, front edge on the left side and appears to have originally been for a number 4 weight barrel as there is a slight gap on each side of the barrel where it contacts the forend. A fine, attractive restored example of a late production Winchester Model 1885 Schuetzen style target rifle.
