Manufactured in 1892. The top barrel flat is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "50 EX" at the breech. The serial number is marked on the lower tang. The #3 barrel has a blade front sight, (with bead absent), and a three leaf rear sporting sight. The bottom of the barrel is marked "23" with a "VP" inside an oval. Mounted with a smooth Schnabel forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with a sling swivel and steel shotgun buttplate. The exact number of 1885s made in 50 Express caliber is unknown, but the number is somewhere around only 300. No factory letter is available to writer at time of description, so we cannot verify the caliber at time of shipment.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 90% original thinning blue finish, with edge wear and some fading to smooth plum patina. The receiver retains 50% faded original case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The lever and buttplate have a smooth brownish patina. The wood is good as freshened with a coat of varnish and shows scattered minor dings. The markings remain clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
