Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle Chambered in Scarce 38 WCF with Set Trigger

This is an early model 1885 rifle manufactured in 1892. The top flat of the number "2" barrel is marked with the two line Winchester factory address ahead of the rear sight and "38 W.C.F." stamped at the breech in front of the receiver. The barrel is fitted with a reproduction Winchester target/globe front sight with a reproduction mid-range rear sight, with a blank plate in the rear sight dovetail. As noted it does have a single set trigger. The lower tang has been stamped with the Winchester factory patent dates and serial number. The rifle is fitted with the original straight grip walnut stock with a crescent steel buttplate and standard Winchester forearm with a ebony tip inlay.

Manufucture: Winchester
Model: 1885-Rifle
BBL: 28 inch octagon
Stock: walnut
Guage: 38 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 55718

Very good as partially refinished with 90% of the original blued finish on the barrel with a the complete action, lever, hammer and breech block having been non-professionally recase colored which has now faded to give it a nice aged appearance. The stock and forend are both fine with much of the original factory finish with minor handling marks and light nicks on the underside of the stock. There is an old professionally plugged sling swivel hole on the underside of the buttstock. With a proper restoration of the receiver case colors this would be an excellent looking rifle in a very scarce caliber.
