Third Model manufactured in 1887, the accompanying Cody letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, smooth trigger and that it was received in the warehouse on April 24, 1888 and shipped with 6 other guns on November 30, 1889. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/King's improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight, "40-60 W.C.F." at the breech, "40-60" on the bottom of the brass elevator and the serial number on the lower tang. Blade front and adjustable carbine rear sights. Mounted with a smooth forearm with iron end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Fine. There is scattered strong original blue finish on the barrel and magazine mixed with smooth brown patina. The receiver shows 40% original thin blue finish mixed with smooth gray and brown patina. The hammer shows much of the original faded case colors. The lever has some moderate pitting. The buttplate has a mottled gray patina with some minor oxidation. The wood is also fine with exception of a number of shallow minor gouges on the left side of the stock and overall minor dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
