Manufactured in 1886, this particular example is a Third Model with the distinctive integral dust cover rail. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight, "38 W.C.F." at the breech and "38 CAL." on the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang. Dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight and a short range Lyman tang sight has been installed. Full magazine, all blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a smooth forearm with iron end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate, with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Fine as partiallyrefinished/modified. The shortened barrel retains 70% original finish with some areas of plum patina, high edge wear and some tool marks on the side flats at and ahead of the forearm. The replacement magazine tube has a smooth mottled brown patina The receiver is a mix of smooth plum patina and original finish with vise marks present on the front portion. The hammer sides show most of the original casehardening pattern and lever has a smooth mottled gray patina. The buttplate has a smooth mottled brown patina. The wood is refinished with a few minor dings and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is very good.
