Winchester Model 1873 1st model with desirable early raised thumb print dust cover in .44-40 caliber, 24” octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, serial number 1256. This rifle shows a factory set trigger andpossibly was targeted as it is near the early 1 of 1000 serial number range. The metal surfaces show a brown patina finish with some faint traces of blue at the edges and where protected. The rifle shows scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting and the barrel address is visible but slightly light. The model marking on tang is also partially visible under the patina. The stocks are good and show some light cleaningwith steel wool but no sanding and some scratches, small chips, minor losses and normal use. The dust cover shows some wear to the checkering but is original and fits and matches patina well. The metal surfaces showa coating of dried oil and the action works well and the bore is fair. The sights are in their correct position and it would be difficult to find an earlier 1873 also it would be interesting to write for a letter as
