Winchester Hodgkiss model 1883 factory 20” saddle-ring carbine, .45-70 caliber, blue and case hardened finish, saddle ring and bar on left side of frame with military type folding rear sight, serial #34354. With research information from Cody Firearms Museum indicating 20” carbine, shipped 1884, order number 638. One of only two known to collectors at current date. The barrel shows original military style blue finish, the frame shows 50-70% case hardening with some vibrant colors on the right, drifting on the left, some erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The buttstock is very good plus with just a couple of minor storage marks. The forend is good and show a couple of significant dents and small losses by the forward band. The action is good, the markings are good, the bore very good plus. Probably supplied to a national armory for military tests. Est: $6,000 - $8,000
