SN: 25205 Early production lever action repeating rifle chambered in .44-40 Winchester, circa 1878. Features a 24 5/16" King's Improvement octagonal barrel, full-length tube magazine, blade front sight with yellow bead, Marbles adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, smooth trigger, replacement dust cover, checkered hammer spur, smooth walnut forend with metal cap and straight grip shoulder stock with crescent trapdoor buttplate. Rifle exhibits what appears to be an old quality refinish and retains approximately 60% thin bluing on the barrel with sharp markings & approximately 10% bluing on the receiver with the balance turned to a mix of soft grey & brown patina. The rifle also exhibits light tooling marks or dings on the left side of the barrel around the rear sight dovetail and on top of the receiver. Action is smooth, bore shows strong rifling with rings of light pitting toward the muzzle, and wood stocks are good with a repaired 5" hairline crack on the bottom of the forend & slightly shrunken butt stock.
