For your consideration in this lot we have a framed mountain landscape watercolor painting by William Thomas Lumpkins. William Thomas Lumpkins (1909-2000) was an American artist and architect known for his abstract watercolor paintings and pioneering solar adobe architecture. He was one of the founders of the Transcendental Painting Group and cofounder of the Santa Fe Art Institute. This painting displays a mountain range with a small forest around the base of the mountains. The center of the piece displays a large central mountain in colors of white and tan. The background shows a dark line of mountains with a light blue sky. The painting displays Lumpkins more abstract art style with an impressionistic design. The art is signed in the bottom right hand corner reading "Lumpkins". The watercolor is set into a custom wood frame with a off white border around the art. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear across the frame. The frame measures 31 1/2" wide by 27 1/2" tall with the art measuring 21 1/2" wide by 17 1/2" tall.
