Civil war contract percussion rifled musket chambered for .58 caliber ammunition, circa 1864. Features a 39.5" barrel, blade front sight, double folding leaf rear sight, three barrel bands, swelled tulip tip ramrod, sling swivels, iron furniture, smooth trigger, checkerd hammer spur, replaced nipple, and one piece full-length walnut stock with metal buttplate. Markings: Lock "1864 Eagle/U.S. WMMUIR & CO./WINDSOR LOCKS,CT" Barrel "1865 65 V/P/Eagle Head(appears restamped) Buttplate "U.S." Rifle is predominately in-the-white showing little surface rust or pitting. Action performs well, bore appears clear and wood stocks shows a circular repair on the left side under the rear sight & a 1/2" hairline crack extending from the upper tang.
Condition is good to very good.
