Featured in this lot is “Sun Up: Tales of the Cow Camps” by Will James, Grosset & Dunlap, New York, publishers, 1930, illustrated by the author. A collection of sixteen stories of young men learning the ropes of cowboy lifestyle, with characters coming-of-age, proving their skill, and even falling in love. Includes some of James' best stories from his previous work along with seven original stories, all accompanied by the author's lively illustrations. William Roderick James was a Canadian-American artist and writer of the American West, writing numerous "cowboy" stories for adults and children. His artwork, which predominantly involved cowboy and rodeo scenes, followed "in the tradition of Charles Russell", and much of it was used to illustrate his books. In 1992, he was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. This tan clothbound gold gilt hardcover book is in very nice condition. Intact pages exhibit age tanning, no other marring observed. Original paper dustjacket is in good condition, protected by clear mylar cover. Measures 5.5"W x 8.25"L x 1"D.
