This is an authentic original Will & Finck bone and silver mounted bowie knife dating to the mid to late 19th Century (1800’s). The piece shows a hardened steel clip point blade with very fancy exquisite file work on the spine of the blade. The blade is clearly marked, “WILL & FINCK S.F. CAL.” along with the insignia. The blade gives way to the finely crafted bone or ivory handle which features a silver band framing the outside edge along with silver rivets. Each side of the handle is inset with a silver placard name plate. Operating out of San Francisco, California Will & Finck manufactured a wide variety of knives and are associated with the California Gold Rush. A knife of this quality would have been given as a presentation piece with other examples, such as the Will & Finck Bowie Knife dating to circa 1872 brought to the Antiques Roadshow in 2003 have been appraised for as much as $30,000.00 (the PBS Antiques Roadshow Knife was appraised by Bras Witherell). The knife offered in this lot shows the same stylings of manufacture with the handle, name placard, and rivets being nearly the same. This is a fantastic early piece that dates to the mid to late 1800's. The bowie knife is in good condition. It measures 14" long with an 8.5" blade. Previously sold for $9,600 with premiums. Possibly the finest and largest Will & Finck knife offered for sale.
