This is an example of a U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket that was manufactured by M.T. Wickham of Philadelphia c. 1833. The "Type II" musket is finished "National Armory Bright" and has the lower sling swivel mounted on a lug in front of the trigger guard bow. The lock has a detachable brass flash pan. The musket has a black walnut stock with low comb that is characteristic of the Model 1816 Musket. The lock plate edges are beveled forward of the hammer and rounded behind it. The lock is marked "US/M.T. WICKHAM" in front of the hammer and "PHILA/1831" behind the hammer. The barrel is marked "LS/P" and "US" at the breech and the tang is dated "1831". The left stock flat has an oval "JM" cartouche, the top of the wrist is stamped "20" and the buttplate tang is marked "US".

Condition: Very good plus. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled dark brown patina. The stock is very fine with crisp cartouches and flat areas, scattered minor dings and dents. The barrel tang screw is absent. The markings are clear. The action is tight and functions well.
