Manufactured from the late 1850s to the early 1860s, this 5th Type revolver features a brass post front and frame notch rear sights. The top barrel flat is marked "E. WHITNEY/N HAVEN". The matching serial number is marked on the frame under the trigger guard, bottom barrel flat, loading lever and on the inside of each grip panel. The inside of the possibly replaced trigger guard is marked "SP/28347/29702". The "SP" marking is also on the frame under the trigger guard. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and brass trigger guard, and fitted with smooth varnished walnut grips.

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina with strong original blue finish in protected areas of the barrel. The cylinder scene is faint. The trigger guard has a natural untouched dark aged patina. The grips have been revarnished and remain good with a small chip on the left toe and lower edge, and overall some minor dings and dents. The barrel marking is crisp and clear. The action is fine.
