Whitney-Laidley style 1 rolling block carbine, .50 caliber centfire, 20-1/2” barrel. Serial #4705. Tang markings read “Whitneyville Armory” last patent date July 16th, 1872. Refer Flayderman 5J-067. Thecarbine remains in fine to near excellent original condition with 75-85% military style blue finish on barrel, some scratches, minor erosion, normal aging. The frame shows 75-85% case hardening starting to dull anddrift to patina. The military style wood stocks are near fine with just some minor dings, mars, storage marks. The only inspector’s type mark is a “U” on the barrel band. The carbine is equipped with asaddle-ring and military type three-leaf sight. The interior shows little to no firing or use. Condition is near excellent overall. The best example of this scarce carbine we have seen with less than 5,000 estimated tohave been produced, mostly for foreign governments. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
