Western high back saddle marked Charles P. Shipley, Maker, Kansas City, MO. #290 with fancy tooling, large German silver heart decorations with stars belonging to Western Movie Star and rodeo legend Tom Mix. Anotarized affidavit executed in 1998 by Guillermo Martin, notary public, states that Ms. Maria Amalia Malcolm signed the document which states that she sold a Mexican saddle with gold and silver trim, trademark “SHIPLES (sic) Kansas City #290” to Noel Ymelt and that her father Juan August Malcolm obtained the saddle on a trip to the United States which used to belong to Tom Mix. By family legend, Juan Malcolm performed in rodeosthroughout South America and the United States where they became acquainted. Tom Mix was presented a great pair of silver and gold spurs for winning a roping competition in Argentina which we sold to Chris Anderson inthe 1970’s.
