This lot provides the opportunity to own a small piece of Montana advertising history. Western Life Insurance Company was founded in 1910 as Montana Life Insurance. By 1938, the company had grown to serving eight states and changed its name to Western Life. The company's central office was in Helena until 1957 when it affiliated with St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co. and 120 of its employees made the move to St. Paul. This brass day of the week calendar holder is from circa 1939. Etched into the brass is "Western Life/ Insurance Company/ Helena/ Montana". The bottom features the logo, "Enduring as the Mountains", in cursive. Engraved in small print is "Grammes Inc. Allentown, PA, where the sign was made. The sign is in good condition for its age (notice the cool ghosting evident in the first photo) with some tarnishing and a slightly bent corner, as shown. It measures 16" x 18.5".
