Western Cowboy Fringed Leather Chinks
Presented in this lot are a pair of Western Cowboy Fringed Leather Chinks, circa late century, thought to be from a Wyoming maker / saddlery. This pair of chinks is wonderfully and professionally crafted leather construction that features thick leather with seven conchos along each leg, leather fringe trim on the inside. Chinks are a common choice to wear in warmer weather because they are shorter and more breathable that chaps. They keep you cool, rather than keep you warm. Chinks can also help the rider stay in the saddle better because the leather sticks better to the saddle than a regular pair of pants. Chinks used to be mainly popular in the Southwest, California and Nevada, where cowboys referred to themselves as “buckaroos,” but today chinks are seen quite often all over the West and in Texas. Chinks are handy if you need to get down on the ground to work such as during brandings, working in a feedlot or doctoring calves. Their length is perfect to keep your knees protected during such tasks, yet not too long that they inhibit movement. These chinks are in very nice condition, supple leather, conchos are bright and clean, hardware bright and clean. Square eye snap and dee leg closures. Adjustable belt buckle waist. Chinks exhibit wear commensurate with normal use and age. Waist 32"-40", 28"L to top of fringe, 36" to bottom of fringe.
