War of 1812-Era Eagle Head Pommel American Infantry Officer's Sword

Produced in Solingen, Germany, the Eagle Head sword was one of the de-facto standard American sword configurations. Measuring 39 inches overall, the 33 inch curved single fuller blade is finished in niter blue in the lower third, with gold accented martial engraving and "Solingen" in a small gold panel on the right ricasso. The hilt is silver finished brass, with Federal Eagle under an "E PLURIBUS UNUM" ribbon on the right ricasso, a checkered hardwood grip, and a "Standish Barry" style eagle head pommel, with fine detail work. With a silver finished brass sheath, fitted with laurel wreath decorated suspension bands and a trimmed drag.

Fine overall. The blade shows a welded repair 9 1/4 inches down from the tip, with over 70% of the original blue and gold visible. The hilt shows 65% of the silver finish, well aged overall and especially dark in the lower areas, with a fine antique color on the exposed brass and light handling marks on the grip. The sheath is very good, with a few dents and scuffs, a 3 inch patch of discoloration near the tip, and around half of the original silver remaining.
