Presented in this lot is a First Edition of "War-Path and Bivouac or the Conquest of the Sioux" by John F. Finerty, 1890, Donohue Brothers publishers, Chicago. The book gives a riveting account of the Plains Indian Wars in the mid to late 1800's including the Battle of the Rosebud, Battle of the Little Bighorn, first-hand account of the Sioux campaign of 1876 as seen through a newspaperman's eyes.
These memoirs aim at laying before the public the adventures, privations, heroism and horrors of our last great Indian wars, exactly as they presented themselves to the writer in battle, on the march or in bivouac. The book also includes Personal Experiences and Adventures in the Big Horn and Yellowstone Expedition of 1876, and in the Campaign on the British Border, in 1879. Finerty was war correspondent for the Chicago Times. This red cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in fair to good condition, scuffing and fading exhibited to covers. Title page shows deterioration on edge otherwise intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. Measures 5.5"W x 7.75"L x 1"D.
