Our Assessment: The Russian Model 91/30 Mosin Nagant rifle is a bolt-action rifle that was developed by Russian firearms designers Sergei Mosin and Léon Nagant in the late 19th century. The 91/30 model was introduced in 1930 and served as the standard infantry rifle for the Soviet Union during World War II and beyond. The Mosin Nagant rifle features a 5-round internal magazine and fires the 7.62x54R cartridge. The rifle has a long service life and is known for its durability and reliability. It was widely used by the Soviet Union and its allies during World War II and saw action in numerous conflicts throughout the 20th century. This Russian Mosin Nagant Model 91/30 was made at the Izhevsk Arsenal in 1944. It was commercially converted to a PU Sniper in Russia and marketed as a Hunting Carbine. This Izhevsk Model 91/30 is an "ex" Sniper that has had a new PU Scope attached. The original scope’s serial number has been lined out. The rifle’s new serial number was added by the importer. The rifle is marked with the original serial number on the barrel shank, receiver, buttplate, magazine, and scope base. The scope base marking was added during the conversion.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded post dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a U notched sliding escalator attached to the barrel. The left side of the receiver has a PU style mount attached by screws. Mounted to the rifle is a Russian PU Scope. The scope uses a tapered post reticle. The view is clear but slightly dim. The adjustment knobs function.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece smooth wood stock has a straight grip, finger grooves, metal nose caps, cut out for the included cleaning rod, two barrel bands, two sling eyelets, through bolt, and a metal buttplate. The wood shows several scrapes & scratches that have damaged areas of the finish. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock rates in Very Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with deep rifling. There is light fouling and oxidation near the muzzle. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish as refinished. The metal shows small scrapes & scratches. The screw heads show use. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic's check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes in its shipping box with a PU scope, and 2 manuals.
