WWII Nazi SS Officer's M40 Sidecap
SS Officer's M40 Sidecap. The sidecap was first introduced with the Wehrmacht in 1934 as a cap that could be worn be any personnel for light field duty. Other branches would adopt the hat with minor variations and in 1940, the Waffen SS would adopt their own variant, the M40. The M40 hat was slimmer and had the SS Totenkopf (Death's Head) and SS eagle and swastika on the front. This SS M40 side cap has both the SS eagle with swastika and the Totenkopf clearly displayed on the front with no damage, fading, or loose stitching. The brim of the cap is lined with silver piping, indicating the rank of officer, that has no damage and is clearly visible. There is a stamp on the inside of the cap that says "K. H. Flauder Minden (Westf.), 1941" that is faded but still legible. This cap is a size 57. The right side has three small holes towards the back. Very good condition. From the Michael Clifton collection.
