This is an early/mid-1942 production Mauser Luger that has the late war "byf" toggle markings, with the all salt blued finish but still retains the checkered walnut grip panels. These late production lugers have been called "Black Widow" P.08 lugers primarily due to the late dark blue/black salt finish produced during this time frame. These models also exhibited the start of the "P.08" frame markings on the left side of the pistol. The top of the chamber area is dated '42' for the year of manufacture and as noted the front toggle is marked with 'byf' the secret wartime code for the Mauser factory. The right side of the barrel extension has a double "eagle/135" Waffenamt proofs, next to the single eagle firing proof, which is also present on the right side of the barrel and left side of the breechblock. The safety and extractor are correctly marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. This luger is complete with an earlier milled "Haenal Schmeiser" marked police type magazine aluminum base with the steel reinforcing pin through the center of the base. The bottom of the base is marked "1018/2" in larger numbers.
