This is a nice example of a WWII Nazi low turret type sniper rifle as manufactured by the Mauser factory and fitted with a commercial Ajack 4x90 sniper scope. The turret mount rifles were considered the most efficient design of the K98 rifles and were in service from 1939 to the end of the war. The scope on this rifle is marked "AJACK 4x90" on the left side of the adjuster base, with the adjusting knob graduated 1 to 8. The left side of the rear scope base is marked with an eagle/135 proof and the front scope ring is numbered to the gun. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, with the right side marked with an "eagle 135" proof (only the 135 is visible) and the left side has an eagle 135 and Nazi firing proofs flanking the serial number. The left receiver wall is marked "Mod. 98". The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and the top right of the barrel at the breech is marked "43 E". Milled floor plate and barrel bands, with a stamped trigger guard. Hooded ramp front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters and steel cleaning rod with slotted head. Walnut stock and handguard fitted with a cupped buttplate and stamped with a WaA135 proof on the right side of the buttstock and a fiant eagle proof on the underside.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 42313
Condition: Very good overall as assembled. The rifle retains 99% of the blue current finish on the receiver and barrel bands with smooth gray on the barrel and bolt handle and thinning on the bolt. The stock has been lightly sanded and re-varnished, and remains very good with scattered minor dents, dings and nicks. The scope is very good with 95% finish thinning in areas and showing some scratches, and dings. There is some minor pitting under the finish on the mount. The optics are clear. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The complete bolt assembly, barrel bands and scope have been nicely renumbered to match the rifle. A nice example of a scarce Low Turret Sniper Rifle.
