This is a nice example of a late production 1941 dated luger manufactured by the Mauser factory. This series of luger has the all salt blue metal finish with checkered walnut grips. The chamber area is marked "41", with "byf" marked on top of the front toggle. This was the first year for the use of the new "byf" wartime code for the Mauser factory. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/655" proofs next to the single Nazi eagle firing proof. Both sides of the barrel has a single small firing proof as well as the left side of the breech block, with the left side of the frame area having the late war "P08" markings. The upper safety area and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. The magazine is a type three Army model with the "fxo/eagle 37/P08" marked blued magazine body with the unmarked black plastic base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 4733w
Condition: Very fine as partially refinished (cold blue touch up on holster wear points) with 90% of the original blued finish on the balance with wear on the edges and high spots overall, with some thinning and minor scratches on the grip straps and stock lug area, with a slight purplish tint to the top of the barrel extension in the chamber area. The grips are in very good condition with nice checkering on both sides overall with the back edges of both grip panels have had the checkering freshened up. Also the left frame rails and the side plate hump both have a small area of pitting, probably from sitting in a holster. The luger has all matching numbers on the various parts except the magazine as noted above.
