WWII Japanese Early Type 95 NCO Sword, with Matching Numbered Scabbard. Machine made shinogi-zukuri shaped blade with bo-hi blood groove measures 66.8cm (26-5/16") in length, with arsenal stamp next to the serial number 77718, matching number and arsenal mark stamped on the mouth of the scabbard. Features brass habaki collar, brass tsuba guard with pierced holes, top latch locking mechanism, copper fuchi handle collar with arsenal markings, painted aluminum handle, retaining screw, and upper hollow screw, but missing the wire loop for a sword knot. Scabbard is steel with a brass throat, single hanging ring, and painted a dark green color. Condition is good, the blade mostly bright with scattered spider rust, light stains, and dried grease, but should clean well. Blade retains its factory edge with no evidence of re-sharpening. Fit of the handle, guard, and spacers is nice and tight; the brass fittings show a nice dark, un-cleaned patina with a couple of spots of heavy oxidation. Handle shows wear to the original paint on the high edges and light oxidation from normal use in the field. Scabbard shows scratches, scuffs, minor paint losses, and light rust spots. Lock mechanism functions properly. Est.: $600-$900.
