This is a unique example of a 1938 Nazi Luger pistol that was manufactured by the Mauser factory that has a frame side plate, presentation inscription. The top of the chamber is dated 1938 for the year of manufacture and the front toggle has the secret wartime code of "S/42" which identifies this as being manufactured at the Mauser factory in Oberndorf. The right side of the barrel extension and barrel have the standard eagle/63 Army inspection proofs along with the single 'drooped' wing firing proofs. It has the correct safety and extractor markings, and is serial numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number on the front of the frame, barrel and barrel extension, with the last two digits on the various small parts. The noted inscription has been cut or rolled (questionably) on the left side of the frame in two lines and reads; 'Karl Kreutz/28 May 1938' and the right frame rail has also been stamped or rolled marked; "Mauser-Werkes A.G. Oberndorf a/N". On a historical note, the original/real Karl Kreutz was a Standartenfuhrer (Full Colonel) in the Das Reich Division of the Waffen SS. He served in this division from 1936 until 1945 and was awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves by SS-Oberstgruppen-Fuhrer Sepp Dietrich. There is no documentation that accompanies this pistol, so the validity of the inscription might prove challenging to validate or verify. The pistol comes complete with one matching magazine that is marked on the aluminum base, "3068n/eagle 63" Waffenamt.
BBL: 4 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 3068n
Condition: Very fine as professionally restored with 85% plus of the blue finish. The grips are in excellent condition with a dark brown color overall with sharp checkering with only minor handling marks. The side plate and frame rail markings are clear. As noted this pistol has all matching numbers to include the blue magazine. Further research should be done to see if the markings can be validated, which would easily double the value of this rare Luger.
