HELMET. A fine & rare example of a US M1917 helmet painted in white with the insignia of the 27th Siberian Expeditionary Force, painted in black on the front. The insignia consists of a black peaked structure with a black bear inside with a large “S” on the front of the bear. The Siberian AEF was commanded by Major General William Graves and totaled approx. 7,950 officers & men. The force included the 31st Infantry & the 27th Infantry, whose insignia is represented on this helmet. Volunteers also served in Siberia from the 12th, 13th & 62nd Regiments of the 8th Division. The interior of the helmet retains its original painted finish and is stamped at the inner rear “YJ 145”. There is no liner inside the helmet.
