This is an example of a late 1914 pattern WWI German Luger pistol as manufactured by the Erfurt Arsenal. These pistols have a rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts, with the standard pattern checkered walnut grips. The top of the chamber area is dated 1918 for the year of manufacture with the standard 'Crown/ERFURT mark' on top of the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the standard Crown over script proofs next to an Imperial Eagle proof. The top front edge of the barrel extension has the small sight cut, typically intended for the rear portion of the artillery rear sight, and as seen on many 1917/1918 produced Lugers. The Luger is fitted with a correct Erfurt barrel that is proofed with the Revisions Commission proof that consists of a "Crown over RC" and "Crown over X" proof marks on the top left side of the barrel indicating a serviceable Luger that had parts fail their initial inspection because of non-critical tolerance or external flaws, which was a typical occurrence in late 1917 and 1918. The right top rear section of the barrel also has a small Army test Eagle proof. The overall pistol exhibits the typical Erfurt machining and rust blued finish with many of the smaller parts having the Erfurt "Crown over a script" letter proof. The pistol has the standard fixed front and rear sights and the extractor and safety are properly marked with "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN". It is complete with a later WWII type all blued magazine with the black plastic base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/ straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 7594-P
Condition: Fine overall with 60% plus of the faded original rust blued finish remaining with blue loss on the grip straps, the lower front edge of the trigger guard as well as the edges and high spots overall, with a slightly heavier spot of pitting on the left rear edge of the frame area behind the safety lever. The grips are also in very good condition with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering with some minor light pressure dents and dings in a few places with no cracks of damage. The pistol has all matching numbers except the replacement magazine and would be a fine replacement example of a late WWI Erfurt Military Luger for a World War I collector.
