This is an example of a WWI German 1914 pattern Luger as used by all German forces. These DWM pistols exhibited the best fit and finish of the WWI pistols and have an all rust blued finish with straw colored small parts. The top of the chamber area is dated 1918 for the year of manufacture with the front toggle marked "DWM". The right side of the barrel extension has the three "crown/ gothic letter" proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof, and the left side of the breech block has a small Crown N commercial proof. The Imperial Eagle proof is also marked on the top, rear section of the barrel, left side of the breechblock and right side of the barrel extension. The upper safety position and extractor are correctly marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN". It is fitted with the standard checkered walnut grips, and it has fixed sights, with the stock lug on the back strap. It is complete with a tin plated, unmarked magazine with a wooden base that has been renumbered "3164/+/Imperial proof", which matches the pistol.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 3164e
Condition: Very fair as assembled with 95% of the original blue finish with wear on the edges and high spots, with 60% of the original straw colors on the various small parts. The grips are in excellent condition with a nice matching honey brown color with nice distinct and sharp checkering overall. This luger has all matching numbers except for the breechblock which is an unserialized replacement. A fine representative late production luger pistol that would be an excellent example for a beginning luger collector.
